Betty Penny, MBA, is an author, social entrepreneur, accountant, consultant, speaker, workshop facilitator, and a not for profit expert on sustainability. She has sat on numerous boards and brings her expertise on internet technology, financial and operational management skills to assist boards from initial launches to being a governance model.
Recently she has assisted a Canadian National Charity from closing their doors by making them a virtual operation to become sustainable utilizing technology. Betty authored the actual case study in chapter 21 and documented the processes implemented to save the organization in the NonProfit Guide to Going Green published by Wiley and Sons.
Betty has founded one regional association and help found a provincial association. In addition to previously being involved on regional and provincial boards; she has been the chair of the Durham Region Economic Develop Advisory Committee, and past committee member of the Durham Tourism Leadership Team, past volunteer member of LHINs ( Local Health Integrated Networks) Collaborative, past committee member of the Ontario Family Health Networks and past treasurer of The Big Brothers and Big Sisters for North Durham.
Betty is the recipient of 2009 Phenomenal Woman Award from Benefits for Woman. Betty enjoys mentoring youth, she sponsors two scholarships and is active in fundraising to help the disadvantaged and youth by hosting an annual fundraising cruise each May since 2004.
Her accounting and management practice Penny & Associates Inc. established since 1994, has been the recipient of several awards including Business Excellence with the Oshawa and Scugog Chamber of Commerce. She has assisted many Not for Profits and Businesses with outside of the box thinking to reach goals or surpass their goals.
